The Devil Inside trailer begins with a strap that informs the audience that what they are about to view is in fact a real piece from reality not from the world of the film. The trailer is following a convention of its sub-genre of adding a piece of reality in. This therefore places immediate fear into them because they now have this to their knowledge that the horror film is real. A script is given of a phone made by the antagonist to the police reporting that she has murdered people. There is a quick fade to a horrific image however this for a split second; therefore building the anxiety because they are not sure of what they saw, bso it almost gives an illusion of the unknown. There is music played in the background which sounds quite hollow so it gives an even more sinister feeling. This was done so that the the trailer links in with the title as no one has seen the devil so that horrific image might give the idea to the audience that perhaps they’ve seen something that has never been discovered before. It follows with a character in the film telling her life story so that the audience will be clear of what is going on and elements of her dialogue tells the audience that this a supernatural/possession. There is religious iconography to connect it with the sub-genre and the theme of the film. There are fades between the main character walking through a mental institution and a cafe, this may be to contrast the difference of normality and insanity. The costume of the character also matches the setting because she is dressed in dark clothing to represent evil and mysteriousness of the setting. However she is holding a back with floral prints to show her innocence. The non diegetic sound is very gloomy; dim thuds which get louder, giving the idea that there is something bad coming. As the young woman walks into the room of the mental patient, there is a POV, long shot from the security camera which allows the audience see what everyone else in the film is seeing, it makes them feel as if they are also within the world of the film which may scare them. it then cuts to a close up of the young woman to expose her emotions as she looks at her mentally ill mother. The camera cut to the mother face and zooms in as she speaks a foreign language; though it does not sound as if she is speaking a certified language, it sounds like curse. It gain cuts to another perspective to an over the shoulder shot as she looks across the room so this gives the feeling that there is something watching her as she is saying the curse, its as if she asking for something to come out or for someone to awake. This links in the possession as early on in the trailer we were told that she is possessed therefore she could be talking to an evil spirit. Horrific imagery is shown as the woman exposes to her daughter scars on her arms and even in her mouth. There is a close up as she asks her daughter to come closer to her, then there is a sudden scream which comes as a shock so it will make the audience jump, therefore leaving them at the rage of their seats because they are anxious to see what happens next.
